Il ruolo delle banche per una storia dell’economia vigevanese dall’Unità d’Italia al nostro secolo

Abstract

La presente ricerca, patrocinata dalla Società Storica Vigevanese e finanziata dalla Fondazione Banca Popolare di Vigevano nel 2010, tratta di un tema tanto interessante per la ricostruzione della storia locale, quanto trascurato a causa della esiguità e della fragilità delle fonti archivistiche consultabili. Le vicende che hanno condotto alla fondazione, negli anni intorno alla metà dell’Ottocento, di vari istituti bancari in una zona ricca e operosa come la Lomellina e in particolare la città di Vigevano sono da analizzare alla luce della funzione di supporto che tali enti hanno avuto per l’economica locale fino al secolo scorso. Testimoni di un percorso secolare di progresso anche sociale, le casse di risparmio e le banche popolari sono state incorporate in istituti maggiori negli ultimi decenni del Novecento, per questo appare ancora più necessario definire il loro ruolo, specie ora che la documentazione ad esse relativa rischia di scomparire.

The present research, supported by the Società Storica Vigevanese and financed by Fondazione Banca Popolare di Vigevano in the year 2010, regards a subject interesting for the local history but neglected for the poverty of consultable sources in the archives. The facts that leaded to the foundation of different banks in a rich and industrious land like the Lomellina and its chief town Vigevano, in the XIX century, must be considered on the base of the function of support for the local economy until the XX century. The Cassa di Risparmio di Vigevano and the Banca Popolare di Vigevano had a part in the long way toward the economic and social progress in the region but in the last twenty years they have lost their independence: now the bigger banks, like Cariparma or Banca Popolare Commercio e Industria, have incorporated the smaller institutes. This event caused the loss or the destruction of documents for the negligence and the indifference. But in the papers still consultable we can find the marks of a forgotten but important period of our history.
